Disorder of a System
Experimental Video about Embracing the Process
Motion
“Disorder of a System” is an experimental video on the concept of Entropy the phenomena that the universe is perpetually approaching a state of disorder and randomness from a state of order. The Project was award the Drexel Senior Capstone Award of Excellence, and nominated for the Graphis 2026 New Talent Award.
The Idea for this project started when my roommate and I accidentally filled our dishwasher with laundry detergent and it started overflowing. I was attracted to the motion of the foamy bubbles sliding down the dishwasher. I started collecting videos of naturally occurring, random bits of motion around me.

The project became heavily driven by the act of experimenting for the sake of experimentation rather than trying to achieve an end result. I went on walks collecting videos and imagery, experimented with ways of creating my own content, and played with different techniques to treat video.

I noticed the common thread of randomness between all the experimentation. The theme of entropy emerged from this idea. The concept that the universe is relentlessly approaching chaos is a very scary thought, but if the process of making this project taught me anything, there's a lot of beauty in the moments in-between order and disorder. The video became about capturing the juxtaposition of the existential dread and the beauty.
